2024 JASPER RIDGE WINEMAKER SYRAH
Fresh from the barrel, our 2024 Jasper Ridge Winemaker Syrah continues the journey set by the acclaimed 2022 and 2023 vintages.
A vibrant garnet-purple in the glass, the wine opens with lifted aromas of wild red berries, pomegranate, and sour cherry, layered with fresh violets, crushed herbs, and a delicate trace of white pepper. On the palate it is medium-bodied, juicy, and agile, silky tannins and bright acidity carrying flavors of cranberry, redcurrant, and plum. Subtle notes of black tea, earth, and dried rose petal add depth and finesse.
The Winemaker Series is crafted to explore a different side of Syrah, showcasing the grape’s versatility beyond the big, bold, and peppery expressions it’s known for. For the 2024 vintage, our aim was to highlight red fruit vibrancy and create a lighter, more approachable style. To achieve this, we used a Beaujolais-inspired whole-bunch fermentation.
This carbonic maceration technique sees whole, uncrushed grapes placed in a sealed tank, where fermentation begins inside the berry itself. The result is a wine that is bright, fruit-forward, and supple, with low tannins and a softer mouthfeel. After a few days, the grapes are gently crushed and fermentation continues, building complexity while retaining freshness.
The result: a Syrah with Beaujolais charm and Jasper Ridge character that is already attracting attention.
Delicious to enjoy now, this wine will also reward patience, cellaring gracefully for 10+ years.
